Illustrators

This week I've been looking at the illustrators Leonard Baskin (bottom 2 images) and Charles Keeping (top 5) for inspiration, both are extremely well-known; Baskin for his Ted Hughes illustrations and Keeping for the Highwayman and Beowulf. Mack recommended that I look at them for some inspiration so I found a few books in the library with some images that I liked. I've seen some of their work before without knowing who it was by and I think I can see that I've been influenced by them before. I love the strong line detail that Charles Keeping uses and lines are a common theme in my own work. I also think the colours that both use are beautiful.

Photographs

Some photographs I took of my Homebase book, I think they've turned out okay after a bit of tweaking. I'm trying to develop the work into packaging now which is a new one for me.

Homebase Project

Here are some of the scans from my sketchbook for the current competition brief. The theme is promoting a 'grow your own' fruit and vegetables range however most of my drawings are of bones and coral because I went to Manchester Museum for inspiration but I've tried to pick out the pages that I could work into the brief. I'm really happy to be working in a more experimental way again as I think over the past year I lost this freedom. I'm just glad to be drawing again!
